(Sutter Creek) The Amador Water Agency was congratulated on 60 years of service to Amador County by the Amador County Board of Supervisors at the Supervisors’ July 9 Board meeting.
At the Supervisors’ meeting, AWA General Manager Gene Mancebo presented a slide show with highlights of AWA accomplishments dating from the Water Agency’s founding as a special district in 1959.
At the conclusion of the slide show, the Supervisors approved a resolution commending the Agency’s contribution to quality of life in Amador County, including:
Construction of the upcountry’s Central Amador Water Project (or CAWP) when wells stopped producing during a drought in the 1970s;
Ending a 20-year moratorium on new hook-ups in Plymouth with completion of the Plymouth Pipeline;
Making great strides in water conservation by construction of the Amador Transmission Pipeline and three recycling plants;
Reducing carbon emissions and energy costs by completing the Gravity Supply Line and generating hydroelectric power;
Collaborating with Amador County Fire Protection Agencies to improve reliability and fire flows in order to protect communities throughout the county;
Successfully securing millions of dollars of state and federal grant funds allowing the Agency to make major infrastructure improvements and replacements at little or no cost to Amador County ratepayers.
