AWA H.R. Head Receives National Guard Patriotic Award

Former employee and Reservist, Mike Finch, nominated Karen Gish (AWA Human Resources and Customer Service Manager) for the Patriotic award. Patriotic awards are awarded to an individual supervisor for support. Awards reflect the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families and granting leaves of absence if needed.
Mike voluntarily requested and accepted Active Duty orders to teach at the Surface Warfare Officers School Unit in Great Lakes, IL. He will be teaching the next generation of Hull Maintenance Technicians valuable information on technical aspects of their job he has accumulated in his 14 years of naval service.

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service Members and their civilian employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee’s military commitment.
