(Sutter Creek) George Barnes, water treatment operator at Amador Water Agency’s Buckhorn Water Treatment Plant was honored as “Outstanding Small Plant Operator” by the Southwest Membrane Operators Assoc., a regional organization for water treatment plant professionals.
The award recognizes “outstanding contributions by a plant operator working at a membrane filtration, desalination or water reuse facility that resulted in significant, long-term improvement in water production and/or water reuse.”
Barnes was nominated for his technical work in construction of the Buckhorn Water Treatment Plant’s Backwash Recycling Plant, a project that dramatically reduced the amount of filter wash water disposed and solved a perennial wastewater storage problem on the Upcountry water system.
“George has been an immeasurably important influence within the AWA water treatment department, especially over the last 5 years, as we’ve navigated startup of the recycle facility and Gravity Supply Line,” said Joel Mottishaw, AWA Water Treatment Supervisor.
Barnes, a 14-year AWA employee, was congratulated on his award and thanked for his dedication to his work with a resolution of commendation by AWA Directors at their July 11, 2019 Board meeting.
