City of Plymouth- Smoke Testing

City of Plymouth- Smoke Testing

The Amador Water Agency will be conducting smoke testing of the sewer system on Thursday, December 05, 2019 between 0800 and noon. We will be smoke testing on Bush St. and Sutter St..  Do not be alarmed if you see smoke in this area.

The reason Cities/Utilities conduct smoke testing is to locate problem areas within the overall sewer system.  The test identifies the sources of leaks and other problems in a sewer system, such as where storm water drainage is infiltrating the sewer pipes.  It is a relatively simple process that consists of blowing smoke mixed with large volumes of air into the sanitary sewer line usually induced through the manhole.  The smoke travels the path of least resistance and quickly shows up at sites that allow surface water inflow.
